Invitation to “International Forum for Young Psychologists” Hosted by Beijing Sport University

Introduction

In order to advance the strategy of “Talents–Driven Development of Universities” and promote academic exchanges and in-depth cooperation among outstanding young psychologists at home and abroad, Beijing Sport University (BSU) plans to hold the “International Forum for Young Psychologists” from 7th to 8th November, 2020, aiming at building an academic exchange platform for young psychologists at home and abroad, discussing leading topics of psychology through panel discussion, enhancing academic exchanges and cooperation, and creating conditions to attract outstanding young psychologists.

Contents & Form

  1. Contents: Share research achievements in fields of psychology, sport psychology and inter-disciplinary subjects, including empirical research, engineering design, research programs or literature reviews, etc.

  2. Form: Online forum, give lectures in English, each speaker’s time will be limited to no more than an hour and will be allocated based on the number of participants.


Requirements for Application

Applicants should satisfy at least one of the following two requirements:

  1. Aged 40 or under; possesses a PhD degree granted by a prestigious overseas university, or a PhD degree granted by a prestigious domestic university and possessing at least 2 years of overseas research experience.

  2. Aged 45 or under; selected into one of the following programs: “Young Overseas High-Level Talents Introduction Plan,” “Young Top-Notch Talents,” “Program for Young Yangtze River Scholars,” or the “Excellent Young Scientists Fund.”

  2. Date of the Forum: 7th -8th November, 2020 (including specialized academic seminars, academic exchanges and meetings of human resource development, etc.)

About BSU

Beijing Sport University (BSU) is a famous institution of higher education both at home and abroad. It is one of China’s National Key Universities and also a Project 211 school. It is also among the first chosen as a Chinese Ministry of Education Double First Class Discipline University. BSU focuses on postgraduate education on the basis of its undergraduate programs. There are nine discipline categories: education science, law, economics, literature, science, engineering, medicine, management and art. Our physical education is rated as both a National Key Discipline and First Class Discipline, with one of its sub-disciplines rated as a Beijing Municipality Key Second Class Discipline. The discipline of physical education was at the top in all the three rounds in a national assessment of disciplines and ranked as Grade A+.. We have the authorization to grant doctorate degrees in physical education and the authorization to grant master's degrees for the following First Class Disciplines: theory of Marxism, education science, psychology, clinical medicine and public management. We also offer master's degree programs for sports, art, journalism and communications; we have a center for post-doctoral studies in physical education.

BSU now has four National Key Disciplines, thirteen key disciplines at the provincial or ministerial level, two outstanding key disciplines at the provincial or ministerial level, five key laboratories at the provincial or ministerial level (such as the Key Laboratory of Sports and Physical Health under the Ministry of Education and the Key Laboratory of Physical Training and Physical Function Recovery under the General Administration of Sport of China), one Beijing Municipality Higher Education Engineering Research Center, one National Experiment Teaching Demonstration Center, and two Beijing Municipality Higher Education Experiment Teaching Demonstration Centers. BSU is committed to implementing the national strategy for development and remains focused on the academic frontier. It carries out over 150 scientific research projects at the provincial or ministerial level or above, including major technological projects and key projects in philosophy and social sciences in China. The University has also won 28 prizes at the provincial or ministerial level or above, such as the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, and the Ministry of Education Outstanding Achievements Prize. The Journal of Beijing Sport University is rated as a Core Periodical in Chinese for Sports, a Core Periodical for Humanities and Social Science in China, a Source Periodical for the Chinese Social Sciences Citation Index (CSSCI), a journal supported by the National Social Science Fund of China, an Outstanding Scientific and Technological Journal of Chinese Universities, and the only Chinese journal on sports that has been selected every year as an Academic Periodical with the Most International Influence in China” since 2012.

As one of the key units opened to the outside world in Beijing after the founding of the People's Republic of China, BSU is an important window to showcase new China’s sports achievements to the globe. Since its inception, BSU has established interschool relationships with 123 colleges and universities in 45 countries and regions, and has enrolled over 15,000 overseas students from 106 countries. Among these students, Dr. Oleg Matytsin was elected President of the International University Sports Federation in 2015. BSU successively awarded a doctorate to Zlatko Matesa, former prime minister of Croatia and President of the Croatian Olympic Committee, and an honorary doctorate to eight international figures including President Jacques Rogge of the International Olympic Committee. It also awarded an “honorary professorship to Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee, Gian Franco Kasper, President of the International Ski Federation, Kate Caithness, President of the World Curling Federation, Ivo Ferriani, President of the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation, Sarah Lewis, Secretary General of the International Ski Federation, Patrick Baumann, Secretary General of the Fédération Internationale de Basketball, Walter Mengisen, Deputy Director of Swiss Federal Office of Sport and Co-Director of Swiss Federal Institute of Sport, and Thomas Wu, Vice President of the International Ice Hockey Federation. Through its international platforms, BSU integrates high-quality international educational resources and has set up a mechanism for international cooperation to cultivate undergraduate and postgraduate students. BSU will continue to make progress in cultivating international talent.


About the School of Psychology

In order to further strengthen discipline and professional building, improve school operations, meet the needs of the reform and development of sports and educational undertakings, and respond to national major strategic needs, BSU established the School of Psychology under the Faculty of Sports and Health in 2017.

The School of Psychology now has nearly 327 undergraduate students in applied psychology, 75 postgraduate students in applied psychology, and 23 PhD students in psychology.

The scientific research carried out at the School of Psychology follows three directions. The first direction is the psychology of sport and exercise, which explores psychological factors that impact sports performance, such as self-control, mental fatigue, and psychological adjustment for major games. In the last five years, the science and technology service team at the School of Psychology has made substantial contributions to the 116 Olympic and Paralympic medals (43 gold) won by the Chinese delegations, and has been commended by the General Administration of Sport of China on several occasions. The second direction is health psychology, which focuses on the relationship between physical exercise and physical & mental health. The School of Psychology has made positive contributions to the improvement of national health. The third direction is cognitive psychology, which explores the characteristics of cognitive process in a competitive situation and provides the basis for understanding athletes' cognitive process and stress training in a stressful situation. This direction has been funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and several papers have been included into the SCI and SSCI.

In order to make breakthroughs in disciplinary construction and talent cultivation, the School of Psychology is vigorously bringing in outstanding young and leading disciplinary talent. Through the introduction of high-quality and high-level talent, we are expecting to make substantial progress in scientific research, training and academic influence.
